GL Experience

One of the many benefits of being an active Global Learning Medallion student were the opportunities to interact and network with professionals of different fields. There were many different kinds of events that were held during the year that I have been a Global Medallion student at FIU. These events were offered in a combination of in-person, online, or hybrid (due to COVID-19).

Student Assistant

During my time as an assistant researcher, I sought out supplemental research that could benefit my professor's primary focus on the Queer Arab Migrant experience. In addition to this, I also completed thorough academic analysis on already existing material and reviews political policies effectiveness within the context of the Queer Arab population. I was able to gain awareness on the conflict on Ethical treatment of Queer Arab immigrants from both sociocultural and political lenses.

TTR: Fostering Trust in Health Care Research

Attendee

Due to the pandemic, much of my attendance to TTRs was online through zoom. Being able to participate in a collective discussion regarding the conflict of lack of trust in the health care system, allowed me to open my eyes to the reality of the relationship between minority populations and healthcare institutions as they are now. As a future medical professional, I will benefit from the presentation and topics that were discussed at this Tuesday Times Table.

Equity Challenges in Miami: How you can make a difference

Attendee

This event also took place during the pandemic which meant that it was held with hybrid modalities for the comfort of the students and staff attending. In this event, the topic of equity in relation to the social conflicts regarding racism and gender inequality were discussed at length. This conversation allowed me to reflect on issues that I have always been aware of, but never considered as solvable. Furthermore, it demonstrated that there are motions in place to incite change in society and promote equality within the population.
